8.9 oz Coarse BID

General Description

A weave of E-glass (Electrical glass) the standard of the industry, both for marine and general aviation use. It is used throughout the construction. BID is the short name for "8.9 ounce Coarse Bi-Directional" cloth, which is weaved on a 45 degree bias, and is very easy to work over complex shapes.

Velocity Use

Used pretty much everywhere, cut on the bias, and pull the weave tight in 2" and 3" widths, for bonding parts together. It is used by the builder in the winglets, winglet attachment, elevators and canard skin.

Packaging Weights

Sold by the linear yard by the factory. Be careful if you by any of the precut tapes from Spruce, they don't appear to be cut on the bias, and they do not move around curves nearly as nicely as the real deal.

Directions for Use

Always cut on the 45, and cut wider than you need by about 50% so you can pull the weave tight for a nicer finish and better strength.

Safety and Handling

When cutting, strands can become airborne - do not inhale them.
